The part time Church Custodian has the responsibility for the overall cleanliness and appearance of the building and grounds, as well as possess an understanding of proper cleaning methods. Respect for the religious and cultural beliefs of others is paramount. The Church Custodian will ensure that all publicly accessible areas of the church are clean and ready for other staff members and the congregation to use. The custodian will also maintain supply inventory, including purchasing of such supplies, as well as assist with event preparation and clean up to include weddings, funerals, and hall rentals. To be a successful Church Custodian you should be observant, respectful to others, motivated, and committed to providing church members, visitors, and staff with a clean, orderly, and safe place to worship and congregate.
Responsibilities: Comply with custodian checklist including light maintenance duties. Interact with Property Committee, church staff, members and visitors in a respectful and positive manner. Communicate any major repairs with Property Committee.
Qualifications: Knowledgeable about proper chemical handling and cleaning techniques. Ability to identify, coordinate and execute cleaning tasks. Have the ability to perform light maintenance and basic repairs to include replacing light bulbs, ceiling tiles, etc. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Ability to climb a ladder and have complete mobility in building and grounds maintenance activities. Pass a background check and pre-employment drug screening. Accountability: The Church Custodian often represents the Church and great care should be taken to make a positive and professional appearance in all circumstances. This position will be under the direction and authority of the Parish Administrator.
Paid Time Off (PTO): Employees will receive PTO to be used for vacation, personal business, illness or other leaves. The amount of PTO granted is based on years of eligible service at ILC. o Two weeks after completing one continuous years of service. o Three weeks after completing five continuous years of service. o Four weeks after completing fifteen continuous years of service.
