Confirmation Lessons
Taking Aim at God's Will
2021-2022

We are presently meeting in-person on Mondays at 7:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall, but you may also join by Zoom if you need. In-person is better, but Zoom allows access to most of the large group conversation.
Click Here for Monday 7 pm Zoom

4/18/2022 - NO CLASS due to Easter Monday
We'll meet again 4/25/2022 for our Last Class

Tonight we wrap up this year's group conversation about the 10 Commandments and the Lord's Prayer using the story of a family who used and lived out both during World War II in the Netherlands. The movie we'll view is available through Prime Video - Corrie ten Boom: A Faith Undefeated.

4/11/2022 - 8th Commandment:
Fencing the Heart

Check out the following reading before or after class:
CLICK HERE for the PDF version of Free to Be, Chapter 8, Fencing the Heart
We have problems with this commandment as a people! It is easy to assume the worst of others, but here God commands us to "put the best spin" on our neighbors' actions. Is this always safe to do? No, but it does open the door for relationship, healing, and life.

And here's the audio version of Pastor Steve reading the chapter.

4/4/2022 - NO CLASS due to Spring Break
We'll meet again 4/11/2022

3/28/2022 - 6th & 7th Petitions: Dilverance

Check out the following reading before or after class:
CLICK HERE for the PDF version of Free to Be, Chapter 21, Deliverance
"Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil" request God to soak us in God's grace and promises, protecting us even amidst subtle yet powerful temptations to self-reliance and despair. Ironically, the stronger our faith, the greater the temptations that come our way.
Tonight's gathering will also include the LWR kit packing mentioned below, one of our ways to stand against evil in the world.

And here's the audio version of Pastor Steve reading the chapter.

3/21/2022 - NO CLASS due to Quake Trip
We'll meet again 3/28/2022

Next week we'll return to package personal care kits and fabric kits to be distributed through Lutheran World Relief, a cooperative effort amongst Lutheran church bodies since 1945, when LWR was founded to aid post-WWII refugees in war-torn Europe. Since that beginning, LWR has cared for many in various places through the world, responding to crises of natural disasters and war. Quilts, personal care kits, fabric kits, baby care kits, and school kits have supplied the emergency need of many.

3/14/2022 - Service Project
Caring for Ukraine Refugees & Local Hungry

Tonight we package items for personal care kits and fabric kits to be distributed through Lutheran World Relief, a cooperative effort amongst Lutheran church bodies since 1945, when LWR was founded to aid post-WWII refugees in war-torn Europe. Since that beginning, LWR has cared for many in various places through the world, responding to crises of natural disasters and war. Quilts, personal care kits, fabric kits, baby care kits, and school kits have supplied the emergency need of many.

3/7/2022 - 9th & 10th Commandments: Counterfeit Hope

Check out the following reading before or after class:
CLICK HERE for the PDF version of Free to Be, Chapter 9, Counterfeit Hope
"You shall not covet" your neighbors' possessions or relationships (in the 9th & 10th Commandments) speaks against the false hope that something else or someone else that is not yours can tempt. This is how wars begin.
And here's the audio version of Pastor Steve reading the chapter.

2/28/2022 - 5th Petition: A Forgiven, Forgiving Community

Check out the following reading before or after class:
CLICK HERE for the PDF version of Free to Be, Chapter 20, Every Day A Gift
"Forgive us our sins as we forgive others" asks God not only for forgiveness but the ability to forgive. We are made for community, but it is God's forgiveness to and through us that makes community possible.
And here's the audio version of Pastor Steve reading the chapter.

2/21/2022 - SNOW CANCELLATION

2/14/2022 - 4th Petition: Every Day A Gift

Check out the following reading before or after class:
CLICK HERE for the PDF version of Free to Be, Chapter 20, Every Day A Gift
"Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread" asks God for everything we need, even though God already knows and gives graciously what we need. The blessing of this prayer is that it connects us to the One who gives and blesses us with peace-giving relationship.
And here's the audio version of Pastor Steve reading the chapter.

2/7/2022 - 7th Commandment: A Parade of Thieves

Check out the following reading before or after class:
CLICK HERE for the PDF version of Free to Be, Chapter 7, A Parade of Thieves
"Do not steal" cautions us against our old, self-centered self that wants to gain things at other's expense. So it is that the 7th Commandment reminds us that all we have remains God's, and we are to manage it in the ways that God wishes - to provide not only for ourselves but also for our neighbors - to the glory of God.
And here's the audio version of Pastor Steve reading the chapter.

1/31/2022 - Service Project - Care Clinic Support

Tonight we consider and purchase baby items for moms and dads served by the Care Clinic, a wonderful ministry of support for neighbors who feel out of their depth amidst pregnancy and more. Each confirmand will receive a $25 credit from Immanuel's Good Samaritan Fund to make appropriate purchases at Negaunee's SuperOne and Dollar General. Let's see how we can care for our neighbors in this way. Thank you for your generosity!

1/24/2022 - 6th Commandment: Saying NO to Say YES (ON ZOOM, NOT IN-PERSON)

Click Here for Monday 7 pm Zoom
Check out the following reading before or after class:
CLICK HERE for the PDF version of Free to Be, Chapter 6, Saying NO to Say YES
This commandment has sometimes received a bad name as a spoilsport. It is taken as a gigantic NO written over anything and everything connected with sex, but as the Creator of sex God wants us to use this dynamite gift well, not being hurt and not hurting others. The 6th Commandment, "You shall not commit adultery."
And here's the audio version of Pastor Steve reading the chapter.

God gives the gift of life like a lover who wants to take care of both the loved one and the gifts given. That's what's behind the 5th Commandment, "You shall not murder."
And here's the audio version of Pastor Steve reading the chapter.

CLICK HERE for the PDF version of Free to Be, Chapter 18, Praying for Our Father

And here's the audio version of Pastor Steve reading the chapter.
